Think you might be pregnant?

Is your period late? Have you noticed unusual symptoms?

No matter what your reason is for wanting to take a pregnancy test, you are welcome to do so at Lifeline.

We provide:

  • Lab-certified pregnancy tests at no cost to you;
  • Those tests can detect the pregnancy hormone hCG in urine as early as 21 to 24 days after the first day of your last period (7 days after conception).

We understand that you may want to know whether you are pregnant right away, but we recommend you wait until the week after your missed period before taking the test. Failure to do so may result in a false negative and you having to take another test later on.

When you schedule a pregnancy test at Lifeline, a Registered Nurse on staff will perform the test. You are welcome to bring someone with you or to come on your own.

If this is your first appointment at Lifeline and you are feeling a little nervous, you can read what to expect during our time with us.

How do I prepare for a pregnancy test?

  • Call Lifeline or make an appointment online to schedule your test
  • Bring a photo ID with you
  • Estimate the first day of your last menstrual period
  • Come with a full bladder

What next?

You’ll receive the results of your test immediately. Whether the result is positive or negative, our nurse can provide you with information about what comes next. She will discuss with you all your options, including parenting, adoption, and abortion.

If the test is positive, you’ll receive:

  • Information about prenatal nutrition
  • Information on additional services Lifeline offers, such as our PLANS (Parenting Lessons and Nurturing Supplies) program, and so on
  • Referrals for community services and OB doctors
  • A starter pack of prenatal vitamins

We may be able to perform a limited obstetrical ultrasound to give you even more information about your pregnancy (such as gestational age and location). If you have a positive pregnancy test in our clinic, Lifeline is also able to provide a letter that verifies pregnancy. This no-cost documentation can be used to apply for state health insurance and other services such as the Special Supplementation Nutrition “WIC” program.

If the test is negative:

You will receive information about the next steps as well as suggested counseling on how to stay healthy and avoid unexpected pregnancy. You’ll have the option to retest at a later date if necessary.

No matter your current situation, whether this potential pregnancy was planned or not, our team of caring nurses and staff members are here for you. What you will find coming to Lifeline is support and a warm environment free of judgment.

Lifeline does not provide or refer for abortions.
